![]() You can, however, change the controls to work more like Smash. Instead, strong attacks have their own button by default. One is that, by default, you don't do smash attacks (called strong attacks in this game) by tapping the stick and pressing the normal attack button at the same time. There are three major differences to the controls, however. ![]() The attack buttons do different attacks based on which direction you hold when pressing them. There's a jump button, a normal attack button, and a special attack button. The goal is to beat up your opponent, build up their percentage, then knock them off the stage. If you've played any Smash game, then it should feel immediately familiar to you. Why do I think this? Well, let's go through each aspect of the game in order. ![]() While it doesn't have anything approaching the sheer quantity of content present in Smash, nor the budget to make it look as great and polished, I think it does a number of things better than Smash. And after playing for a few hours and watching a bunch of videos of people better than me on Youtube, I've decided that it's awesome. I just learned about it like a week ago when I stumbled across a video of it on Youtube, and decided to check it out on a whim. It currently has 7 characters and 5 stages, though if the character and stage select screens are to be believed, it'll wind up with 8 of each. It came out last September as an Early Access game on Steam for $14.99. Rivals of Aether is an indie fighting game that is heavily inspired by Smash Bros., particularly Melee.
